Since 2012, John Robertson's The Dark Room has been at the forefront of interactive comedy, fusing improvisation and videogaming into the world’s only live-action text adventure game.

All audiences have to do is pick options off a screen, but somehow the show’s become a cult sensation, and each show is a raucous, heavy metal cross between a strange Japanese game show and a revival meeting.

High-energy and immersive, The Dark Room has racked up sold-out Edinburgh Fringes, become an actual videogame and appeared at Insomnia Gaming Festival, Soho Theatre, PAX Australia, EGX, 21Soho, UK Games Expo, BlueDot, Melbourne Comedy Festival and on the global front page of the streaming platform Twitch.

In 2020 and 2021, John performed The Dark Room for 48 and 50 hours straight on his Twitch channel, raising money for various charities. These shows and other sessions have raised over £100,000 for causes including NHS, Woman’s Trust, Refuge and Mind.
